Having a bit of a sob here.
Dick King-Smith, well-known British children's book author of The Sheep-Pig died yesterday. You and I know The Sheep-Pig as Babe, The Gallant Pig.
We all loved Babe, but have you ever heard of King-Smith's bigger (at least in the UK) success? The Hodgeheg is apparently quite well-loved; I'll be looking for it.

Sad news!
Unfortunately, the line "that'll do, pig" always makes me think of the Simpsons, when Groundskeeper Willie says "That'll do, snake...that'll do."
Yes, I'm a huge Simpsons nerd.
Loved the book and the movie, but never heard of the Hodgeheg. Will look for it. Have you read King-Smith's book about the parrot? Liked that one, too.
I sniffed too....I kept hearing "If I had words to make a day for you" playing over and over in my head all day.
NOOOOOOO!
I know this sounds insensitive, but I thought he'd died several years ago. Thus, I'm happy he had some more time.
Heee heee heee!
Gail, you're as bad as I am. Most of the time, I'm completely lost as to whether or not people are still alive...!
Tanita--At both the Christmas and New Year's Eve parties I attended there were discussions of whether or not a well-known person (different in each case) was still alive. I was wrong on one and right on the other.
I guess you know you've made it if strangers are interested enough to wonder if you're alive or dead.
Gail, we should make a board game of this. We'll call it Existent? or Expired? It'd be a hit at parties...
It would be a hit at the parties I go to, anyway.
WHAT? NO! How did I miss this? That makes me so sad. I love recommending his books here at the library, and I liked thinking that new ones would continue arriving at regular intervals.
