"Best of" lists or worse, gift guides, and I'm plugging my ears singing "La, la, laaaa!" because I simply cannot think of gifts or shopping yet for anybody while my big pile of Cybil reading is yet to be done (I have twenty more books to read out of the original eighty, so I am feeling quite pleased with myself!). However, I expect most of my fellow bloggers are all frantically shopping and singing and lighting candles, dressing up, attending prayers, burning incense, eating well, and decking the halls anyway, so before you have time to miss me, I'll be back. In the meantime, thought I'd take a break from reading and reviewing to wish you all the type of holiday you enjoy -- whether it be full of people and events or completely silent and cozy. I am already enjoying the best of taking time off to relax, thanks to my reading. After all these great books, I shall be ever so spoiled -- the perfect attitude with which to begin a new year.

The Happy Season of EidChrisSolKwanZukkah Continues
Now that my abortive entry into National Novel Writing Month is over, I feel like some of the pressure is off for my life to begin again. (Cheers to A.Fortis for finishing, however!) Only, there's not so much beginning going on with the blog. I comfort myself that there's not much going on in the publishing/YA literature world at this time of year anyway... okay, so much to say: first, love that post title. secondly, love that Bad Sex fiction award. i. had. no. idea. and Haddon?? i read that novel, and i might just have to link to that link from that review of mine. also, i am also heavy into cybil-reading. over 100 picture books were nominated -- though, of course, they don't take as long to read, so i'm not complaining. the holiday rush/craziness makes me crazy; i don't get into the spirit 'til the last minute because of it all. anyway, happy holidays to you, too.
Now that I am deep into YA Fiction, I am curious about what else was nominated, and am making a list for the eventuality that I'll finish all of these novels someday and make it to reading what everybody else picked. Picture books are WAY HARD to judge -- not to mention to write, so I'm envying you that task not at all!

Though there aren't nearly as many graphic novels, I'm in a similar place--frantically reading them as they come in, with occasional breaks to stress about things like Christmas cards (will they or won't they get sent?) and presents for people I'm seeing before the holidays. Argh!
oh, yes, they are difficult to judge. i tried to write one in grad school once, too, and it was asstastic. but i do love this whole process, reading all these books, putting my mind to work on judging them. i hope i can do it next year, too!
